ECCA Appoints New President

ECCA at its annual general meeting this year appointed a new President, Mr. René de Koster, from Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands.  The normal tenure of the position of President is threeyears, however this may be extended by up to a further two years. René took over as President from Mr Ricardo Faria, from the University of Porto in Portugal, who had served his term as President.

René is currently Application and Project manager at Wageningen University & Research IT department. He has been working at WUR since 1985: Starting off in a very different field, he was at first responsible for plant care at the research facility in Aalsmeer (just next to Schiphol airport) and in the 1990’s he started growing into the field of IT. Initially he was involved in programming for climate systems in greenhouses, as well as in database management and later switched to application management. Together with all other IT personnel, he moved to Wageningen in 2006, and at the same time, the first version of the WURcard was just being introduced. Currently, next to a large variety of different projects, he is still involved in almost all aspects concerning the WURcard.

René said“I am delighted and honoured to be appointed President of ECCA. We are entering into a very exciting period for campus cards and eID’s. ECCA is a neutral, not for profit association, and our aim is to provide direction and leadership on the future of eID inline with EU policy and I look forward to my role in delivering on these aims by working with our members and other relevant stakeholders over my term as President”.

The association would like to thank Ricardo Faria for his excellent work during his term as President as we wish René every success during his term in office.
