As a corporate member of the ECCA, inepro recently had the pleasure of co-hosting the European Student Card Event on 19 October at our headquarters in Nieuw-Vennep. As a supplier of the identification and payment platform KUARIO, we consider it very important to be involved in the ECCA. This because of its focus on developing European standards and facilitating a forum for interaction, networking and developing partnerships. Today, over 200,000 students and staff use the KUARIO platform daily and we are currently developing an extensive pilot to explore the potential of KUARIO offering a digital replacement for the physical student card.

KUARIO in education

With the rise of mobile payments, many educational institutions have a growing desire to offer unattended services on standalone devices such as lockers, vending machines, Multi Functional Printers or an EPOS. As offering services in education can present various major challenges such as (additional) administrative tasks, the accreditation process, payments for services, IT and more, KUARIO was developed.

On a daily basis, KUARIO assists over 40 organisations in education to offer the best service to students and staff through its management, reporting and micro-payment platform. It eliminates the complexity of device setup and configuration by enabling cloud-based implementation. After installation, KUARIO is immediately operational with minimal hardware requirements and without large investments in space, servers or software. Once in use, KUARIO gives you a clear overview of usage/cost of facility services and enables end users to access these services through the KUARIO mobile app.

A safer and digital alternative to the student card

Being in touch with a large number of educational institutes, we are regularly asked whether it is possible to expand the KUARIO portfolio. Because in addition to using lockers, vending machines, printers or cash registers via the KUARIO platform, organisations in education are also looking for a fitting (digital) alternative to the physical student card. Besides being a means of identification, the physical student card has in many cases less functional value. Moreover, the card is often forgotten or lost, susceptible to fraud, expensive and the material (and waste) is not eco-friendly.

In response to this request, KUARIO is now investigating how the digital student card can be included in its range of solutions, followed by a large-scale pilot. With an in-app link in the KUARIO app (API), the platform will enable a partner organisation to offer a digital student card with a dynamic QR code. This makes the student card highly secure as no personal data will be stored on the KUARIO platform. In addition to digital identification, options to allow access to certain areas and doors via this feature is also explored.

In the near future, after the successful conclusion of the pilot, we hope to present a convenient and highly secure alternative for the physical student card to ECCA and its members.
